Have you been to Old Montreal? or any restaurants in Old Montreal? Old Montreal is the magical city where you think you are in Europe with narrow cobblestone streets and historic architecture. If you haven’t been already, you are missing out! I have lived in Canada my whole life and have been to Montreal several times. Old Montreal is a hidden gem. You can visit Notre Dame Basilica where Celine Dion got married or take a horse-drawn carriage through the cobblestone streets to explore and see the famous historic Parisian-style district.

There are a lot of things to see and do in Old Montreal, but one of my favourite things to do is try all of the famous restaurants in Old Port Montreal. I am going to list 5 of my favourite restaurants in Old Montreal. These 5 old Port Montreal restaurants include option for lunch, fine dining and even a cocktail bar with delicious food.

My 5 Favourite Restaurants in Old Montreal

#1. Barroco

Address: 312 Saint-Paul St. W, Montreal, QC

Hours: Sunday-Thursday: 5pm-10:30pm

Friday and Saturday: 5pm-11pm

Barocco, A Spanish Restaurant In Old Montreal
Barocco, A Spain And France Fusion Restaurant In Old Port Montreal

Another incredible restaurant that you can’t miss on your next visit to Old Port Montreal. The food, cocktails and customer service was incredible. This restaurant features a Spain and France fusion.

This restaurant is perfect for a date night. There is a very cozy, intimate and romantic ambiance.

You need to make a reservation for Borocco Montreal. The staff is incredibly helpful and kind.

We got the Beef Wellington for two people. It was worth every single dollar. The beef melted in our mouths with so much flavour. We will definitely be back.

PRO TIP:

Reserve ahead to enjoy this incredible meal. I give this restaurant a 5+ rating. I cannot say anything bad about this place. I had the beef wellington for two and the paella for takeout because of the lockdown and everything was cooked to perfection. You won’t be disappointed in this restaurant. This is my absolute favourite restaurant in Old Montreal.

Menu Recommendations:

Beef Wellington for two

The beef wellington had the texture of butter and melts in your mouth. This was the best Beef Wellington I have ever had

Paella

I have a difficult time finding a good paella. I have only found one really good restaurant in Toronto that impressed me. Barocco’s paella was another restaurant that does a phenomenal job with their paella. I will order the paella again when I go back.

#2. Tiradito

Address: 1076 Rue de Bleury, Montreal QC

Hours: Monday- Saturday: 5pm-10:30pm

Tiradito, One Of The Best Restaurants In Old Montreal
Tiradito, A Restaurant In Old Port Montreal

Tiradito, a restaurant that is located in central Old Montreal is one you can’t miss if you love tapas.

Tiradito features Peruvian cuisine. You will have an incredible time at Tiradito because of the atmosphere and the food. Chef Marcel Larrea, from Peru, has highlighted his Peruvian heritage at Tiradito. What makes this my favourite restaurant is that there is a Japanese-Peruvian fusion on the menu.

This restaurant features tapas which means the menu has small dishes however, if there is more than one of you, I recommend ordering a large variety of different dishes so that you can try the incredible food.

Tiradito has an interesting concept with bar tables and stools. The stools aren’t the most comfortable to sit on for hours but the amazing food will distract you from that.

This restaurant also has a huge selection of signature cocktails. This is definitely the place to enjoy tapas and have cocktails. If you sit at the bar where the bartenders are making the cocktails, you will probably get extra attention from the staff!

As I have mentioned before, I am a huge foodie. I have travelled to Thailand, Bali, and Europe and I live in food heaven in Toronto, which means I have tried many restaurants and different types of cuisines. This Japanese-Peruvian fusion has left me wanting to go back for more tapas. This is why I have listed it as one of the top 5 best restaurants in Old Port Montreal.

PRO TIP

Make a reservation and ask to sit near the bar to get better service. Sometimes it takes the waitresses a while to get around the outer tables because they are always so busy!

Menu recommendations:

Crispy shrimp: The crispy shrimp from tiradito reminded me of when I was in Thailand. I would order Po Pia Goong which are Thai Prawn Spring Rolls. This menu item brought me back to my Thailand days!

Butifarra Sandwich: This sandwich is an item that you should try! The sandwich has BBQ duck, salsa and a tasty sauce on a steamed bun.

#3. Olive and Gourmando

Address: 351 Saint-Paul St W, Montreal QC

Hours: Tuesday-Saturday: 9AM – 5PM

Olive And Gourmando, A Restaurant In Old Montreal
The Front Of Olive And Gourmando

Begin your day by grabbing a handcrafted cappuccino as well as a famous sandwich. Olive and Gourmando is known for their sandwiches and they are well worth the visit. They feature Cuban sandwich which is delicious! Every bite is delicious and super fresh. This place can get pretty crowded, so I would try to head for a time that isn’t peak hour.

The best part of Olive and Gourmando is that on your way out is a huge table of baked goods. Their cinnamon bun brioche is popular, but I had to opt for a croissant since I have a soft spot for them.

The vibe in Olive and Gourmando is awesome! The interior design is aesthetically pleasing and just has a friendly atmosphere.

This restaurant is more for breakfast, lunch, or early dinner. Olive and Gourmando closes at 5 PM Tuesday-Saturday.

Pro Tip

Make sure to go early in the morning so you aren’t caught in a huge line outside.

Menu Recommendations:

Le Cubain: Is a must if you visit! It is a fairly large portion and has delicious cheese and spicy sauce in the panini. I find it hard to find a good panini nowadays, so if you are craving one don’t skip the Cuban Sandwich.

The Grilled Cheese Sandwich: Definitely a restaurant favourite! The grilled cheese sandwich has caramelized onions and housemade ketchup.

#4. Le Serpent

Address: 257 Prince Street, Montreal, QC

Hours: Wednesday – Saturday: 5:45pm – 10:15pm

CLOSED Sunday – Tuesday

If you enjoy seafood, you will absolutely love Le Serpent. The environment, the service, the food presentation and the wine list is just incredible. This is a pricier restaurant but it is well worth it.

They have a small menu with about 5-6 appetizers and 5-6 main dishes. If you are not a seafood person, don’t worry there are still many other amazing dishes to try.

The portion sizes are pretty small so keep this in mind when ordering your dishes. This is the place to order a bottle of wine. They have some great Italy and France options.

The restaurant is very industrial looking and has a private and chic vibe.

PRO TIP

Book weeks or months in advance. This restaurant is very popular and books up. When you know you are headed to Old Montreal, book that dinner date!

Another reason for this restaurant being difficult to reserve is that they are closed from Sunday – Tuesday every week.

Menu recommendations:

Crudo and Lobster Risotto

#5. Modavie

Address: 1 Saint-Paul Street West, Old Montreal

Hours: Sunday – Thursday: 11:30am – 10:30pm

Friday – Saturday: 11:30am – 11:00pm

I love feeling like I am away in Europe, and this is the place to feel that. Live music begins at 7pm every night. Check out the calendar for what is going on when you visit.

Modavie offers lunch, afternoon, dinner and weekend brunch. They have a mealtime that suits everyone.

Modavie’s menu consists of a variety of options. The speciality menu options listed on the menu such as the frilled rosemary lamb chops and braised lamb shank. The lamb chops are absolutely delicious and worth getting however, the veggies were not as outstanding. The fried calamari was also a huge hit for me at Modavie.

Modavie is the place to enjoy a wonderful meal in Old Port Montreal with live music playing in the background. This restaurant gives you all the feels that you are away on vacation in Europe. This is why it has made my list of one of the 5 best restaurants in Old Port Montreal.

Menu recommendations:

Fried Calamari and the Grilled lamb chops

Stash Cafe, A Polish Restaurants In Montreal
6 Mouth-Watering Restaurants In Old Montreal That You Can't Skip 25

This is a Polish restaurant that serves traditional Polish dishes. The atmosphere is cozy inside, has dim lights and church pews as seats. Depending on the time of your reservation, they feature live music.

The menu included perogies which are absolutely delicious.

Menu Recommendations:

If you are new to polish cuisine, I recommend getting the “Beginner” on the menu. It includes a plate of 4 pierogi, 1 placki, 1 krokiet, and bigos. This was the best option for me to get to try all of the traditional Polish foods. This plate was $27. The perogies were my favourite!
