Legian and the Kuta Bali area is known to be party central! If you are a pub crawler, you will find many busy pubs in this area. You can even find a pub on wheels that drives you around all night while you beer taste.
I found Legian and Kuta Bali to be an older crowd and family oriented. It is also pretty loud just about everywhere you go. BUT, with everything being said, a few things can make it worth a quick stop here during your vacation to Bali! Make sure to add these places below to your Legian and Kuta Bali itineraries. If you are travelling to Bali, you don’t want to miss out on my Bali travel guide!

Below in my Legian and Kuta Bali travel guide, you will find my list of best things to do in Kuta Bali, best Bali restaurants and best budget Kuta hotels!
My Top Things to do in Kuta Bali
Bali Sea Turtle Society
Location: Kuta Beach Sea Turtle Conservation Centre

This was a major highlight of my Legian and Kuta Bali travel guide! Bali Sea Turtle Society is an organization created by Indonesian locals who simply want to protect sea turtles. At Kuta Beach, there is a little area where Mr. Turtle (he refers to himself as this) and a few others have a station where they relocate the sea turtle eggs and place them in a protected area to hatch safely. I had the unforgettable opportunity to watch a nest of hundreds hatch and emerge from the sand.
Also, I had the magical experience of releasing a few baby sea turtles into the water to begin their journey at sea! I am beyond grateful for this once in a lifetime experience. Information is posted on their website, Facebook, Instagram and twitter regarding their baby sea turtle releases. You can also purchase merchandise and donate for this amazing cause. I will admit, this was such an incredible experience for me, that I am STILL talking about it today!
So if you take just one thing from my Legian and Kuta travel guide, make it this! This is by far my #1 activity of things to do in Kuta Bali.
Get Your Surfing On!
Surfing has always been a dream of mine, but I’ve always been too nervous to try. But how can you travel to Bali, and not try it at least once? I mean, Bali is infamous for the surf culture. I went with a company called UP2U Surf School. This surf school had good reviews, and a decent price. We were placed in small groups of 3, with a surfing instructor, which was a selling point for us. I was thinking of booking a private lesson, but with groups of this size, I didn’t think it was necessary.
We started by learning the basics of surfing and how to use the board on the sand. After about an hour, we set off into the water! I found this surf school very organized. They even have a photographer taking pictures that you can purchase when your lessons are over. The lessons go for 2.5 hours, and for one lesson it is 250k (rupiahs).
One thing to note, is there are TONS of learners in the water at this beach, from many different companies (literally you are on top of each other). It is for this reason that I don’t think it is ever worth paying extra for a ‘private’ lesson from a company. Also, if you are looking to be alone in the water during your lessons, that will not happen. But with this being said, I found the tide to be quite beginner friendly compared to other surfing beaches like Canggu, which made it a great spot for me.

Massages
Did you say cheap foot massages? YES! No Legian and Kuta travel guide is complete without mentioning great spas. I think I went for a massage every single night when I was in Kuta. Since I walk everywhere, my feet definitely need the pampering after a long day of walking. I looked up reviews for places around me, and my tip for a good massage parlor is that it should be FULL of people. The place I loved (they had two locations) is called The Natural Spa. The owner was very kind, they were clean and ALWAYS busy. If you have a particular time that you like going, you can book ahead and they will hold your reservation. Continue reading my Legian and Kuta travel guide below! Take advantage of the cheap massages and put them on your list of things to do in Kuta Bali, especially at the end of a long day!
Beachwalk Mall
Location: Sahid Kuta Lifestyle Resort Jalan Pantai Kuta, Bali 80361 – Indonesia
Website: https://beachwalkbali.com/
Phone #: +62 361 8464 888
If you are looking for a traditional mall, Beachwalk Shopping Mall is the largest in Kuta Bali. I found it very aesthetically pleasing as there is open concept stores. There are many cafes with patios where you can enjoy a meal or coffee near the beach. Located in the heart of Kuta, this mall has all the top brands that you can think of.
Now my favourite thing to talk about, FOOD!
Fat Chow Bali
Hours: 12 pm – 11 pm
Location: Poppies Lane II No. 7C, Pantai Kuta, Bali
Website: fatchowbali.com
WhatsApp: +62 877 6133 0661
Fat Chow is an Asian fusion restaurant with Thai inspiration. To me, it is one of the best Bali restaurants that I visited. The environment is very welcoming. The staff are super friendly, and the decor inside is so warm and authentic. I was so happy with the restaurant that I went two days in a row! The Hawker Pad Thai was fantastic! It felt like I was back in Thailand. I ordered the Thai Green Curry, and it was also delicious and also very authentic tasting. Chicken Wings were amazing! They were sticky chicken wings marinated with coriander, honey and sesame seeds. Fat Chow is a must go to when traveling to Bali.
Another item on their menu was a Chicken Cashew Stir Fry. This dish is a restaurant favourite and includes roasted cashews, chicken breast, and vegetables served with jasmine rice. For dessert I had the Pandan cake, it was delicious too! Fat Chow in Kuta is pretty small, so make sure you go early!
I found there weren’t many quality restaurants in Kuta Bali. I am someone who does a lot of research on places to eat since I am a huge FOODIE and I found there weren’t many options. Fat Chow Bali was definitely a highlight of Kuta eats for me and I know you won’t be disappointed! This was actually one of my top restaurants in Kuta Bali.
Bella Italia Legian
Hours: 9 am – 1 am
Location: Jl. Sriwijaya No.368, Legian, Kuta
Phone #: +62 361 758354
Whether you are staying in Legian or Kuta Bali, they are very close an within walking distance. This is a great Italian cuisine option in Legian. I know it sounds weird, but for some reason when I’m on vacation I always want a good pizza, no matter where I am. This restaurant is attached to Grandmas Hotel Legian where I stayed. I decided to check it out and found the pizza was pretty darn good! The service was great, and there was a nice covered patio which is a perfect quiet evening spot.
Recommend: Hawaiian pizza
My Kuta Hotels recommendations:
Grandmas Hotel Legian
Location: Jl. Sriwijaya No.368, Legian, Kuta
Website: https://grandmashotels.com/legian/
WhatsApp: +62 896 0555 2000
If you want to visit Kuta Bali, I recommend staying in Legian instead. It is less busy and I just didn’t want that party atmosphere. Grandmas Plus Hotel Legian is a perfect choice for budget Kuta hotels! There are three locations; Legian, Seminyak and near the airport. They have very small rooms, but they are clean. The staff is very friendly and will welcome you with a cocktail when you arrive.
The location in Legian is a 5 minute walk from Kuta Beach, which was a great feature. The hotel offers a free scheduled shuttle service that will take you to popular areas nearby during designated hours. The only downfall is it can be noisy at night, especially if you are in a room near the street, but everything in Kuta is noisy at night.
The area of Legian is central to Kuta and Seminyak, so its a great area to plan your things to do in Kuta Bali, as well as Seminyak Bali.
If you are looking for a very affordable and clean option, you will be very happy with this choice. It is definitely a place that you get every value for your dollar. If you are looking for a list of budget friendly Kuta hotels, make sure you book Grandmas Hotel Legian.
Save it for later!

These all look great! I would love to release a baby turtle into the sea. I’ve always wanted to try surfing as well. And the food looks delicious!
It was the best moment in my life!
We were planning a return visit to Bali. But now that is all on hold. We loved to watch the surfers but you were not getting me into those waves. I would much rather to to the Sea Turtle spot. It would be great to be there and be able to release baby turtles back into the sea. Foot massages every day would be my dream vacation. Good tip about reserving your time. We loved the Balinese food. But were surprised when we found so many great Italian restaurants too.
All that food looks fantastic, but I think like you, visiting the Bali Sea Turtle Society and releasing baby sea turtles sounds like a total highlight! That must have been amaaaazing!
Kuta Bali looks amazing and food here is too delicious. The first photo of baby turtle is really very cute. Thanks for all food guide and where to stay options.
Now this is on my list of must see! Thank you for sharing 😊
